If you’re planning family photos during your Myrtle Beach vacation, timing can make a huge difference in how your photos look and feel. So in my opinion, the best time for family photos in Myrtle Beach is that wonderful golden hour!
As a Myrtle Beach family photographer, I always recommend scheduling sessions during golden hour — the hour before the sun sets OR the hr when the sun rises. (yes, a lot of people cringe at hearing this! BUT it works!)
This time of day creates soft, warm light that photographs beautifully along the coast.

Midday sun can be very bright and harsh, especially on the beach where sunlight reflects off the sand and water.
Sunset light, on the other hand, is soft and flattering.
During golden hour you’ll notice:
• warm, glowing light
• soft shadows
• beautiful sky colors
• a calmer beach atmosphere
This light helps create the nostalgic, relaxed look many families love for beach photos.
One of the biggest questions families ask is whether sunset sessions will be too late for young children.
The good news is that beach sessions tend to feel like playtime.
We walk along the shoreline, explore the sand, and let kids move naturally instead of asking them to stand still.
This relaxed approach often keeps children engaged and happy during the session.
Family sessions at the beach are designed to feel relaxed and natural.
Rather than posing every moment, I guide families through simple interactions and movement so the photos feel authentic.
You might walk together along the shoreline, hold your children close, or simply pause for a quiet moment together.
These in-between moments often become the most meaningful photographs.
Many families choose to schedule photos while visiting Myrtle Beach for vacation.
A beach session is a beautiful way to remember time spent together at the ocean.
Some popular locations for family photos near Myrtle Beach include:
• Cherry Grove Beach
• Pawleys Island
• Huntington Beach State Park
• Garden City Beach
• The Point at Cherry Grove
Each location offers beautiful coastal scenery and soft evening light.
As a Myrtle Beach family photographer, I photograph families throughout the Grand Strand and nearby coastal areas.
My sessions focus on candid moments, natural connection, and documenting your family as you are right now.
If you’re planning a beach vacation or live locally in the area, sunset sessions are currently available for spring and summer.
